Field Trip: Commonly asked Questions

What is the cost of a field trip to ImagineU?
Admission for field trips is $3.00 per student. Teachers and adult chaperones are not charged.

Do we need chaperones?
We recommend one adult for every 6 to 8 students.

What should I expect during a field trip to ImagineU?
Most field trips to ImagineU are scheduled for two hours. We will divide large groups of students into smaller groups and rotate them through the museum exhibit areas and Exploration Stations (see Exhibit Descriptions and Fieldtrip Options) so that all students can experience each.
When your group arrives, we’ll begin with a brief meeting in our main room and then direct students and chaperones to assigned areas. After students have been to all the assigned areas, they are free to return to the ones that interest them most.
We typically end field trips with everyone gathering again in the main room, where we will read the students a story. If you’d like children to eat a lunch or snack, students may eat in this room.

How do I prepare?
Read the exhibit and fieldtrip options descriptions. Use this and other information enclosed in this packet to build student background knowledge.
Once you have made your reservation and scheduled an Exploration Station Lab, ImagineU will provide you with lessons that relate to that topic. These may be used before your field trip to prepare students for our labs or can be used to continue exploration and discussions when you return to your classroom.

What should we bring?
Encourage your students to bring PENNIES or other coins to experiment with at our Gravity Well. At this exhibit, they can watch the coins accelerate and decelerate before being sucked into the center hole. It’s a hyperbolic funnel that demonstrates Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion.
It’s always helpful to museum staff if visitors wear NAME TAGS on the day of the field trip. We love being able to address students by name.
